Taking a test drive of the car you are interested in having on finance is vital. It’s a process you should certainly make the most of as it can definitely change your perception of whether the car is, or isn’t the right one for you.
Although, test drives can be a stressful task- you are driving a car you are unfamiliar with and also there’s a complete stranger sitting next to you watching your every move. However, it’s important that you take your time whilst taking your test drive, this car could be your transport for several years to come.
Just remember that you should never commit to buying/entering a financial agreement according to a car until you are absolutely satisfied that is the right one for you. Plus, take some reassurance from the fact that if you don’t opt for this one then there’s plenty of others to choose from.
Here are a few of our top tips for getting the most from your test drive.
Every dealer will have a special insurance in order to cover test drives. Although, it is important that you check all of the insurance policies carefully to insure you are covered before you test the motor.
You should try to allocate at least half an hour for a thorough test drive. Try to drive on all kinds of roads- a test drive on busy roads in a town probably won’t tell you a lot about the car if you are mostly going to be driving it on motorways.
To help you feel more relaxed during the test drive, bring along another adult to keep the salesman chatting so that you don’t feel under pressure. Plus, this adult will be able to comment on the car from a passenger’s point of view. Try to test the car on a route you know, that way you can concentrate on the car and not finding your way around.
Try more than one
It is a good idea that you test more than one of a make and model that you are interested in. This will give you a better idea of which car you like driving, and help you differentiate the possible faults of the car.
Get the opinion of your family and friends. If you are buying a family car, then it is important to consider their opinions as well. It is important that they are all comfortable.
Even if you aren’t looking for a family car, it is a good idea to get another opinion. A friend or family member will be able to provide additional advice that you may not have thought about.
